Empower Women, Empower Families and Empower Communities
“You’re going to feel empowered. You’re going to feel like you can do anything,” Tanika said talking about Women Build.
Tanika was last year’s Women Build homeowner and she spent a week on site building her home alongside other women. Women Build week is a unique opportunity to have all women on site building homes, including volunteers and construction staff.
Hear from Tanika about her empowering experience as last year’s Women Build homeowner:
Last year, the majority of the families served through Milwaukee Habitat’s homeownership program were single mothers who had been living in unsafe, unaffordable or overcrowded housing. Women face more barriers to stable housing than men in similar economic situations. This is because men earn more on average than women, women have unequal caregiving responsibilities, and single women are denied mortgages at higher rates than single men. Women Build week works to break down these barriers by empowering women, empowering families, and empowering communities.
This year’s Women Build week will take place August 3rd through August 6th. Together we need to raise $75,000 for the construction materials of a new Habitat home before then.
During last year’s Women Build, volunteers surpassed their goal of raising $35,000 and raised $40,000 to help bring stable housing to Milwaukee families. This year, Women Build teams have already raised $30,000. They need your help to reach our goal of $75,000 by August 3rd.

Together with your support, we can help women in our community build strength, stability and self-reliance by becoming first-time homebuyers.
