It Takes a Team: Farhiya Is Home 

Farhiya and her four children recently moved into their brand-new Habitat home. After migrating from Kenya to Kentucky at a young age, she grew up in low-income housing before relocating to Milwaukee, where she and her family continued renting.

Now a mother of four, Farhiya wanted a place where her children could feel comfortable, grow up with stability, and experience the security of homeownership.

Today, Farhiya has built a brand-new home for herself and her children, a place where they can build stability, create opportunities, and play freely.

We recently celebrated this accomplishment with Farhiya and her children. When a Milwaukee Habitat homeowner moves into their home, we host a home dedication celebration. Together with family and friends, we celebrate the tremendous milestone of becoming a first-time homebuyer.

During the dedication, we learned more about Farhiya’s journey to homeownership.

She is no stranger to long journeys. From crossing continents as a child to building a foundation for her own family, Farhiya has officially reached the final step in her journey toward homeownership. She has moved into the home she worked so hard to make possible.

But Farhiya didn’t make that journey alone. Her homeownership journey was made possible through the support of family, friends, Habitat staff, volunteers, and sponsors who helped her along the way. 

As Farhiya and her children celebrated this milestone, she was asked what she learned during her homeownership journey. She shared:

“It takes a team effort to make dreams come true. The world is full of good people.”
