On a rainy Friday this April, ESPN Radio hosts Homer & Gabe relived another painful Milwaukee Bucks playoff loss to the Chicago Bulls. On that dreary day, Homer & Gabe were broadcasting live from Habitat for Humanity ReStore East in Walker’s Point. While there, the dynamic sports talk duo encouraged listeners to bring down tools they no longer needed. The tools would then be resold at ReStore with proceeds benefiting Habitat’s mission of safe, affordable housing for all.
Even though the Bucks had lost and the rain was pouring down, local listener Andy (seen in the picture) sprung into action! Without hesitation, Andy drove to his house where he had a tool box full of duplicate tools he wasn’t using anymore. He gathered them up and brought them down to ReStore East. Andy was familiar with the location as he had recently donated some doors to ReStore that had been originally salvaged from a middle school in his hometown. Little did Andy know, this generous gesture would land him on the links…
When Andy arrived with his donation of tools, he was greeted by a ReStore staff member who informed him that he could put his name in a drawing to win a golf outing with Homer and Gabe. Much to his surprise, his generosity was rewarded as he got a call from ESPN a few weeks later saying he won the grand prize!
Without even knowing the prize was available, Andy went the extra mile to help Habitat eliminate poverty housing in Milwaukee. “I appreciate the work that Habitat performs, and was happy to help, while finding a home for my extra tools at the same time.” Andy said.
Andy and the rest of the gang were able to shed the rain clouds and enjoy a beautifully sunny Saturday out on the golf course a few weeks later. “It was a lot of fun,” said Andy. “I was most impressed with how tenacious Homer is when it comes to finding lost golf balls!”
Thanks Andy for supporting Habitat for Humanity with your donation of tools to ReStore!
