There’s a lot of bad news going around these days. It can feel overwhelming at times. So, we wanted to take a moment to share a little joy and hope from our Habitat family to yours. Each Tuesday in April, we’ll be sharing good news in a series we call “Good News Tues.” We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day.
Sharon
Sharon is a Milwaukeean through-and-through, having lived in our community for more than 30 years. Because of people like you, Sharon has a safe, affordable place to call home during this pandemic. After her kids moved out, she downsized and moved into a low-income housing development. It was what she could afford at the time but, unbeknown to her, it wasn’t safe. Every time it rained, water rushed down into her kitchen. She pleaded with her landlord to fix the issue, but it was no use.
After completing hundreds of hours helping to build her home and the homes of her neighbors, Sharon stood outside her Habitat home for the first time with keys in hand. She broke into tears. Sharon realized a dream she’d never thought possible. She had become a homeowner.
Thanks to your support, Sharon has the comfort of a safe, affordable home at a time where it may be more essential than ever before. This is the power of home and this is the power of our community coming together.
From the bottom of our hearts, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. We’ll be back with more good news next Tuesday.
