Sharing the Love – One Meal At A Time

We’re back with another edition of Good News Tues to spread a little joy from our Habitat family to yours. We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day.

Sharing the Love – One Meal At A Time

Renowned cooking expert, author and TV host, Julia Child once said, “I think careful cooking is love, don’t you? The loveliest thing you can cook for someone who’s close to you is about as nice a Valentine as you can give.”

Whether it’s grandma’s famous stuffing on Thanksgiving or just a warm stew on a cold winter’s Wednesday, as Julia Child puts it, ‘careful cooking is love.’

With this in mind, we teamed up with the MATC Culinary School and Pick’N’Save to deliver a little love to new Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity homeowners this year through our new “First Meal” program.

Every Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity homeowner who moves in this year is going to be treated to their ‘first meal’ prepared by students and faculty at the MATC Culinary Arts school. Sponsored by our friends at Pick’N’Save, homeowners have a menu of options to choose from including chicken cacciatore, pork goulash and more.

“The Milwaukee Area Technical College mission is about education that transforms lives, industry and community,” says John Reiss of MATC’s Culinary Arts Department. “We support the community through service-learning activities such as the Habitat for Humanity partnership. Food is a communal experience that brings us together and this is a great opportunity for MATC to connect with the community and make someone’s day a little brighter.”

Over the last two weeks, 14 First Meals were delivered to new Milwaukee Habitat homeowners, homeowners like Crystal. In times like these, gestures of love like this can go a long way. No matter our differences, there’s something about sharing a meal that has the power to bring us closer together.

Local families need your support now. Make a gift that will change their lives forever.
