We’re back with another edition of Good News Tues to spread a little joy from our Habitat family to yours. We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day.
A New Beginning
For Tah, Eh Kee and Mu Dah, the road leading up to this day has been long and arduous. On this day they realized what many consider a tenant of the American dream: home ownership. While this road is long for all too many in our community who struggle with unaffordable, unsafe and overcrowded housing, the obstacles this family has overcome is nothing short of extraordinary.
Hailing from war-torn Myanmar, their family has endured forceful displacement from their homes, years in Thai refugee camps, and assimilation to a new culture and country. Tah is thankful to be in a place where he can begin to live a normal life.
“It’s a lot better compared to the refugee camp,” he says. “Moving here and being able to find a job was the first step. The next step is to own our own home.”
On this day, Tah accomplished his goal, receiving the keys to their own brand new Habitat home. Like all Habitat homeowners, he helped build his home and is paying an affordable mortgage. To celebrate this tremendous milestone, staff, volunteers and supporters joined in a parade down their street in Milwaukee’s Midtown neighborhood. Watch the socially distanced parade in the video above.
For Tah and Eh Kee, this home means a new beginning; a foundation for their three children to have a safe, stable place to call home. We couldn’t make moments like this possible without support from people like you. Thank you
