Goodwill to Stop Accepting Furniture – ReStore Offers Alternative

Beginning Thursday, November 4^th Goodwills across the region will no longer accept donations of furniture. This has left some wondering what to do with their gently used sofas, chairs, tables and more. Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity offers a solution in the form of ReStore, the nonprofit’s own resale stores/donation centers.

Habitat ReStore is accepting donations of furniture at all three of our Milwaukee County locations and even offers a free donation pickup service. Much like Goodwill, ReStore resells these items to the public at a fraction of retail cost. Each year, through the sale of donated furniture, appliances, building supplies, home décor, and more, Milwaukee’s ReStores raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to build safe, affordable homes in our community.

Currently, 1 in 3 Milwaukee renters spend half or more of their income on housing. Through the resale of donated items, Habitat for Humanity creates opportunities for families to become first-time home buyers. Habitat homeowners help build their own brand new homes and pay an affordable mortgage. Homes are clustered in areas with low homeownership rates and have been shown to reduce crime and increase property values.

Donations of furniture can be made at any of Milwaukee County’s three ReStores at 3015 N 114^th (ReStore Wauwatosa), 4150 S 108^th (ReStore Greenfield), and 6939 S Riverwood Blvd (ReStore Franklin).
