Local Mom Begins Construction of Habitat Home with Brewers Pitcher Brandon Woodruff

Brewers Community Foundation (BCF), the charitable arm of the Milwaukee Brewers, and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation teamed up with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity to help a local mom, Hsa Yu (pronounced SAH YOU), become a first-time home buyer. Brewers All Star pitcher, Brandon Woodruff, joined the Famous Racing Sausages and local volunteers as construction of Hsa Yu’s future home began in the Harambee neighborhood. Woodruff’s wife, Jonie, and young daughter, Kyler, joined the star hurler on the build site.

“As a parent, I appreciate how important it is to have a stable place to call home,” said Woodruff, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ambassador. “The work that Habitat is doing to help moms like Hsa Yu become a homeowner is vital, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”

Habitat for Humanity breaks down the barriers to homeownership for local families who are struggling with the soaring cost of housing in our city. Through partnerships with organizations like BCF and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity makes homeownership affordable for local families like Hsa Yu’s. First-time home buyers help build their own brand new homes and pay a mortgage that averages $600-$900 per month.

BCF Executive Director, Cecelia Gore, joined representatives from Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation and volunteers from the community on the build site today. Hsa Yu’s future home is one of nine new Habitat homes being constructed on the same block in the Harambee neighborhood. Together, we are empowering families to build stability and equity through affordable homeownership and home repair opportunities.
