Brewers, Fairway Team Up To Build Safe, Affordable Habitat for Humanity Home

Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff, Brewers Community Foundation (BCF), the charitable arm of the Milwaukee Brewers, and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation teamed up with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity to begin building a safe, affordable home in Milwaukee’s Midtown neighborhood last week. Brewers all-star pitcher, Brandon Woodruff, traded in his cap and glove for a hard hat and hammer to help install siding on the new home. The build marks a 15-year partnership between BCF and Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity to help local families become first-time home buyers.

“I’ve always admired the impactful work Habitat for Humanity does for families and neighborhoods,” said Brandon Woodruff, Brewers pitcher and Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ambassador. “I’m looking forward to supporting the incredible team of volunteers and I can’t wait to pick up a hammer and help build another Habitat home here in Milwaukee.”

Habitat makes homeownership possible for local families who are struggling with unaffordable, unsafe and overcrowded housing. Through partnerships with organizations like BCF and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity makes homeownership affordable for local families in need. First-time home buyers help build their own brand new homes and pay a mortgage that averages $600-$800 per month.

This home, in particular, has the added touch of having been worked on by one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball today. Brandon was joined on the build site by his wife Jonie and daughter Kyler. Brandon and Jonie signed the studs of the new home while on site.

BCF Executive Director, Cecelia Gore, joined representatives from Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation to help build the home as well, accompanied by the Johnsonville Famous Racing Sausages. The home is one of nearly 100 properties that Habitat for Humanity has been building or repairing in Milwaukee’s Midtown neighborhood since 2018. Milwaukee Habitat takes a block by block approach to new home construction and by focusing in targeted neighborhoods aims to reduce crime and increase property values.

Ever wonder how well a racing sausage can install siding?
