Bringing Heart to Habitat, a Habitual Highlight

Bringing Heart to Habitat, a Habitual Highlight

“What I feel like I bring to habitat is heart. That is my experience,” Habitat Habitual Grace said.

Grace is part of the dedicated Habitat habitual group that spans across many aspects of Milwaukee Habitat. Habitat Habituals volunteer regularly on the construction site, in our ReStores, in the office, and more. On a weekly basis, Grace heads out to a Milwaukee Habitat build site and builds homes alongside staff, other volunteers, and homeowners.

After experiencing tragedies where she lived in Des Moines, Iowa, Grace moved back to Milwaukee where she grew up. Grace wanted a consistent activity to help her heal and that’s when she joined the Habitat team.

“The thing that helped me the most was how me as a person was just embraced,” Grace said. “It was totally healing for me.”

Habituals are dedicated to our mission and are an integral part of bringing safe, affordable housing to Milwaukee.

“If you believe in what we are doing in terms of the Milwaukee Habitat mission, then you’re golden. That’s what we need here,” Grace said.
