Good News Tues. – April 21st

There’s a lot of bad news going around these days. It can feel overwhelming at times. So, we wanted to take a moment to share a little joy and hope from our Habitat family to yours. Each Tuesday in April, we’ll be sharing good news in a series we call “Good News Tues.” We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day.

Lesley
Like all too many families in Milwaukee, Lesley had been living paycheck to paycheck due to the high cost of rent. She’d been forced to find a new home for her and her two children due to severe mold issues. Even when doing so, the rental she was able to afford had electrical issues, windows painted shut, and little in the way of insulation. This caused her energy bills to skyrocket on top of her already unaffordable rent. Thanks to support from people like you, Lesley and her family now have a safe, affordable place to call home.

With Habitat’s affordable mortgage, Lesley was able to become a homeowner for about $300 less per month than she was paying in rent. On top of that, her home has proper windows and insulation to keep energy bills down.

Lesley says for the first time she’s been able to save for the future. Instead of having to make impossible decisions between paying the rent and affording basic necessities, she’s been planning something she always dreamed of: taking her kids on a family trip to SeaWorld. This is the power of home and this is the power of our community coming together.

From all of us at Milwaukee Habitat, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. We’ll be back with more good news next Tuesday.

If it’s within your capacity, please consider making a gift to help more families like Lesley’s. With one of our largest fundraisers temporarily closed (Habitat ReStore) our friends at Accunet Mortgage stepped up to help. They’re matching all donations up to $25,000. Double your gift today!
