“It Was Really Worth It”: Elaine & Grant Are Home
There was a ribbon to cut, a giant blue key to hold, and a home to celebrate. After spending the summer settling into their new house, Elaine, Grant, and their two daughters gathered with friends and supporters to celebrate their journey to homeownership.
This summer, the family began making the house their own. Before they officially moved their furniture and belongings, they painted their daughters’ room.
“Bright teal,” Elaine said. “Imagine a cruise ship teal. All four walls. It’s fantastic.”
Now settled into their new home, the family celebrated this accomplishment and reflected on why they pursued Habitat homeownership.
Grant shared:
“Our goal was providing a really stable environment for our kids to grow up in…I think it’s going to give an opportunity for them to have a real childhood home where memories are established here.”
Elaine added:
“Plus no lead poisoning, no mold, no asbestos. So it’s going to be safe.
We wanted a really safe house for the girls and we knew it would be years probably before we could purchase that on our own So when we learned about Habitat, we thought we might not have to wait five to ten years; we might be able to do it in two years and that’s what the process took for us.
It was a really worthwhile time investment and we feel so grateful to be exactly on this block and in this house. It was really worth it.”
