Shirron’s Home Dedication: “This is My Journey”

Shirron’s Home Dedication: “This is Where I’m Supposed To Be”

Earlier this year, Shirron became a first-time homebuyer and moved into her brand-new Habitat home in the Harambee neighborhood.

We celebrated with Shirron outside her new home surrounded by family, friends, staff, volunteers, and sponsors.

During the dedication celebration, she reflected on what this journey has meant to her:

I really wanted to do [the Habitat program] because I wanted a brand new home. Not a lot of people get the opportunity to have a brand new home built from the ground.

Also, I had tunnel vision before I got into this situation, so I only was looking for one type of area, one type of place to live in. Then, when I applied for Habitat, I had to do a lot of research. I got to know the neighborhood, went to a couple meetings with the officers to see what was going on. I was educated. Went on tours and met a lot of cool people that I never thought I would meet.

Volunteering in the church, I met people. I’m still going to go back to the church to volunteer. I met some friends along the way. Got a couple friends on the block that I know that I met during the volunteering section and had a lot in common.

It’s been a great experience for me as far as going through this. I’m glad I applied because I never thought I would meet lovely people.

Through tears, Shirron continued,

I’m so happy that I did this. This is a great opportunity for me, and I’m blessed because I have a brand new home for my kids.

I feel like God led me here and this is where I’m supposed to be and this is my journey.

And like I said I met a lot of good people. I remember you, she says as she points to Abby Wall, one of her house sponsors, you were pregnant and holding up the drywall. And I got a couple girls’ numbers that I communicate with so it’s been a good experience for me.

When asked, what’s the best part of being in your house, Shirron replied,

It’s my house. I was staying in a town home before so I was like connected side by side with another person. It’s my house. It’s beautiful. I love it. That’s all I can say.

The best part about it is it’s your house.
