We’re back with another edition of Good News Tues to spread a little joy from our Habitat family to yours. We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day.
Laurel Turned Her Wheels Into Walls
With such an immense need for safe, affordable housing in our community, we here at Milwaukee Habitat are so grateful for folks like you who are lending a hand-up to those in need. There’s so many ways folks are advancing our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Today, we wanted to share a touching note from Laurel, who recently donated her 2001 Toyota Prius to Milwaukee Habitat’s Cars for Homes program.
I am donating my 2001 Prius to Habitat to Humanity. It is special because it is my first ever car! Before this, I only rode my bike or the bus. I bought it from my employer, a small environmental nonprofit. It had served loyally as the “staff car” for many of my friends at work. I loved the freedom of finally being able to go on trips and get places more easily in the winter.
I am donating to Habitat because this car came from a nonprofit that makes the city better, so it should return to one. Habitat has made a HUGE impact on my city, specifically the neighborhood where I work. Many low income residents and refugees have gotten homes through this program and I love biking through those neighborhoods now!
Here is a picture of my car during a parade for my school’s graduating class of 2020. Because our school was virtual last spring, we drove around the city to visit each of their homes and celebrate.

Thank you Laurel for this generous donation, and thanks to all of you who are coming together to help build homes, communities and hope in our city. Below you’ll see the kind of impact your gift has. This block in Midtown is being absolutely transformed with brand new, soon-to-be owner occupied, homes. We truly could not do this without you.
