Good News Tues. – April 28th

We’re back with another edition of Good News Tues to spread a little joy from our Habitat family to yours. We’re all in this together. Here’s hoping this brings a little light to your day. 

Pa & Paw
Pa and Paw’s courageous journey to become Habitat homeowners began in their home country of Myanmar. Like more than 1 million others in the region, they were forced to flee what some classify as the world’s longest running civil war. As villages were burned and atrocities were committed upon civilians, they eventually found shelter in a Thai refugee camp. After living in the temporary shelters of the refugee camp for years, their family was granted access to the United States.

Though it was most certainly safer, the rental they could afford in Milwaukee did not have working lights in the living room or bathroom. It was also not wheelchair-accessible, so Pa had to carry his son, who’s disabled, out of the house to get to the school bus. Thanks to support from people like you, Pa and Paw were able to build a better future for their family.

Pa, working as a personal care-giver, and Paw, working summers at a local farm, were able to afford an ADA accessible Habitat home for their three children, two of whom require special care. After years of uncertainty, Pa and Paw have regained the stability of knowing a place they can call their own. At a time when it’s more important than ever before, their family now has safe place to live that meets the needs of their children. This is the power of home and this is the power of our community coming together.
