a word from our CEO
This year has been a remarkable testament to what is possible when people come together with purpose and compassion. At Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, we have seen neighbors, partners, volunteers, donors, and families unite in ways that strengthened our organization and our community.
Sarah and her two sons are a powerful example of what happens when people work together to make affordable homeownership a reality. As a single mother, Sarah faced skyrocketing rent prices and a housing market where safe, comfortable homes were out of reach. Then, she joined Milwaukee Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership program. She joined the home building process alongside volunteers, donors, and staff, learning the skills and knowledge to become a first-time homeowner while contributing to the work that would make her dream possible.
Today, her family enjoys stability and the freedom to plan for the future, whether it’s educational opportunities for her sons or building generational wealth. For Sarah, affordable homeownership is not just a roof over her family’s heads, it’s a foundation for a better life. Their story is featured below.
Stories like Sarah’s remind us that every home we build is the collective effort of neighbors, volunteers, donors, and partners, all working together to open doors and create opportunity. Together, we are building stronger families and stronger communities.
These moments remind us that every person has a role to play. Each of you contributes something essential. You are helping build a Milwaukee where more families can access the stability and equity of homeownership.
Thank you for being part of this mission. Thank you for believing in what we can accomplish when we build together.
In Partnership,
Brian Sonderman
Chief Executive Officer
Together, We Build:
Sarah's Story of Stability
In 2021, Sarah and her two sons moved into their Habitat home, marking a new chapter filled with stability, growth, and hope. In this video, she shares what homeownership means for her family and how the Habitat community came together to make it possible.

Public Sector Support
Public sector support enhances our capacity to build and repair homes throughout Milwaukee. We take a bipartisan approach to our partnerships with the city, county and state. We are grateful for grants totaling $5.7 million this year.
New Construction: Joy's Path to Homeownership
Joy’s home was built thanks to grants from the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County, along with funds from the Zilber Family Foundation and individual donors.
Since she was young, Joy dreamed of having a place to call her own. After growing up in a home owned by her mother and watching her three older siblings purchase homes, she wanted to follow in their legacy. She chose Habitat after her aunt purchased a home with the program.
Beyond homeownership, Joy has many life goals. She plans to go back to school and dreams of traveling the world. “With homeownership and Habitat, I can afford owning a home and having money left over for whatever I want to do,” she said. “That could be traveling or going back to school...I’ll be able to save so much money.”
Lead Abatement and Weatherization
Milwaukee Habitat helps families create safer living environments through partnerships with the Milwaukee Health Department, the Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office, and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
We provide free lead abatement and weatherization services to households in need. This fully grant-funded program prioritizes households with children, improving homes by combining lead remediation with energy efficiency upgrades. It is a transformative initiative that’s creating healthier, safer, and more sustainable homes for families throughout Milwaukee.
“Since the start of our partnership under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) lead remediation program in 2022, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity has demonstrated a strong commitment to reducing lead hazard exposure for Milwaukee children,” said Robert McInnes, Home Environmental Health Manager, Milwaukee Health Department. “The team at Habitat navigated the challenges of building a grant program from scratch with professionalism and commitment. This tenacity has greatly served the residents of Milwaukee and has helped to set the standard for what a proactive lead hazard reduction program should look like.”

Our Habituals and Core Volunteers make an impact on every team and in every department. They bring skills, experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our build sites, ReStores, and the Board room. In 2025 they generously came together to raise $77,000 to sponsor and build their fourth annual Habitual House.

building globally
Since our founding in 1984, we’ve worked to build safe, affordable homes here in Milwaukee and across the world, believing that distance does not play any role when we want to achieve the common goal of eliminating poverty housing.
In countries around the globe, families are living in desperate conditions. With your support, we’re partnering with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in other countries, donating 10% of our unrestricted funds to ensure even more families have a safe, decent place to sleep at night —a donation known as tithe.

Brewers Team Up to Build Homes
Brewers players Chad Patrick and Tyler Alexander joined the Famous Racing Sausages, the Brewers Community Foundation, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, County Executive David Crowley, and Prime Financial Credit Union to kick off construction of a Milwaukee Habitat home. The Brewers’ long-standing support through funding and volunteerism continues to help families achieve safe, stable homeownership and stronger communities.
Milwaukee Habitat Women Build
In 2025, more than 100 women from 20 teams raised $65,000 and helped build a new home for Say Klo Wah, Lah Ku Htoo, and their five children. Before arriving in the United States and renting their small, aging house, they lived in a refugee camp in Thailand, where their lives were far more restricted. Their new home offers safety and space for their children to play.
Sponsored by: Thrive Realty, Catalyst Construction, General Mills, Cotality, Fiduciary Real Estate Development, 101.7 The Truth, and We Energies Foundation.
Celebrating 40+ Homes Built with Sargento
Sargento and Milwaukee Habitat celebrated the 40th and 41st Sargento sponsored homes in Milwaukee, bringing together past and future homeowners, volunteers, and CEO Louie Gentine. The celebration honored more than three decades of partnership, funding, and volunteerism that continues to help families build strong futures through homeownership.
Giannis and Family Help Build Milwaukee Habitat Home
Giannis Antetokounmpo, his family, and volunteers from the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation and GE HealthCare joined Milwaukee Habitat to build a home in the Harambee neighborhood. Alongside Milwaukee Habitat and Acts Housing, the event highlighted efforts to expand affordable homeownership and support family stability through education, financial coaching, and hands-on collaboration.
Accunet sponsored a new home through their $75,000 Framing the Future Gala challenge match. Total support tops $925,000 over two decades. “Supporting Milwaukee Habitat is a natural fit,” said Brian Wickert, Chairman/Chief Honesty Officer, Accunet Mortgage. “Accunet’s employees enjoy swinging hammers and raising walls on the build site. There’s truly no better way to give back!”
Associated Bank’s partnership makes it possible to build homes and hope. Bank employees have volunteered a remarkable 2,500 hours over the last decade. Their philanthropic support pays for house costs. The bank is a trusted lending partner, ensuring local families pay an affordable mortgage so they can build generational wealth.
Milwaukee Habitat is building and repairing 51 homes in Harambee from 2024-2026 thanks to Bader’s $1.2 million gift. Over the summer, Moo Kaw Baw and Hser Eh Paw moved into one of these homes and started a new chapter of homeownership. The walls of their home echo with the laughter of their children. “It means new life, new perspective, new hope,” Hser Eh Paw said.
Fiduciary Real Estate Development (FRED) sponsored and built a new home for the fourth consecutive year. Akira is ready to embrace the opportunity in front of her and take control of her future. “I feel like the leader of my life,” Akira said. “This home is something I can call my own.”
Friendship House’s financial support has helped build, rehab, and repair 49 homes since 2012. Quanesha was inspired by the Habitat homeowners on her block. After years of renting, she’s ready to open the door to her very own home. “It’s going to feel great,” she said. “There will be a lot of tears.”
Johnson Controls’ incredible impact over the last 15 years includes 1,400 donated products for new homes, 2,000 volunteer hours, and $300,000 in financial support. After facing challenges as a single mother, Deana’s hope was rekindled through Milwaukee Habitat. “I am a builder, I am a restorer, and I am an owner... of my future, my dreams, and now, my home,” she said.
Komatsu has sponsored and built 34 homes since 2011. Total support tops 14,000 volunteer hours and $2.9 million from employee, corporate, and supplier giving. As the mother of three adult children and a grandmother, Samantha wanted a home of her own where her loved ones can gather. “I love bringing family together,” she said.
MGIC has generously donated $700,000 since 1997. Employees have volunteered 3,300 hours in the last decade building new homes. “I’ve always wanted to own my own home,” Charmaine said. Her house is a place her adult children can come back to, a foundation: “They know they can always be together here.”
Milwaukee Tool has contributed over $1.3 million in lifetime financial support and donated products. Their tools are a fixture on the build site. At one point, Shanice thought homeownership was out of reach for herself and her children. Thanks to Milwaukee Habitat, she now believes everyone can achieve their dreams. “Just because you haven’t experienced something before, don’t let that stop you,” she said.
Habitat Homeowner Sherry
“It’s not just an investment for now. It’s an investment for the future, for the long term... It will be an opportunity to build generational wealth.
I am overjoyed. To have a home that’s mine is a sense of accomplishment. I can’t stop smiling because I’m so excited.”

Gala raises $480,000 for Affordable Homeownership
On the evening of Thursday, October 16th,
Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity hosted its annual Framing the Future Gala inside the organization’s historic early 20th century woodshop. We were honored to welcome more than 300 guests, whose generosity helped raise $480,000 to build affordable homeownership across Milwaukee.
Presented by BMO, the Framing the Future Gala is Milwaukee Habitat’s largest annual fundraiser. The dollars raised are vital to helping local families invest in the stability and equity of homeownership, and every gift reflects the shared commitment of our community. As the evening came to a close, the outpouring of generosity reflected the power of community. This night is a reminder that when we unite behind this cause, we build more than houses. Together, we build homes, community, and hope.

building on faith
Milwaukee Habitat’s Faith Partnerships embody our mission: Motivated by God’s love, we bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
As a founding cohort member of the national Team Up project, we engage in bridge building dialogue across differences, finding common ground in our work to provide safe affordable housing for more families in Milwaukee. Team Up launched in 2023 with the goal to provide 10,000 Americans training in transformative bridgebuilding skills through collaborative community partnerships. We are grateful for our developing partnership with YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, Catholic Charities, and the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee.
people from 25 Faith Partners attended our annual Building on Faith breakfast in January, 2025.
faith communities supported the construction of three new homes, contributing over $115,000, hundreds of volunteer hours, lunches, decorated 2x4s, welcome home gifts, and more.

"I finally did it."
“When you speak positive, positive will come. I always manifested homeownership. Then it happens. You have to be positive.
