Spiderman, Unicorns, and a Fresh Start for Denisa’s Family

Through Milwaukee Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership program, Denisa is building a brand-new four-bedroom home that will give her children the space and stability she didn’t have.

“I never had my own room so I get to do something different for my kids,” Denisa said. “I just want them to have better.”

Denisa and her four children love spending time together, especially when it involves fun and games. Some of their favorite outings include trips to Dave & Busters and Chuck E. Cheese. Making these memories is one of Denisa’s favorite things to do. 

Her children are excited about their new home and have already planned themes for their bedrooms.

“They are happy,” Denisa said. “They are just excited to have their own room. It’s a four bedroom, so the boys will share a room. One of my daughters wants a Hello Kitty room, the other wants a unicorn room, and the boys want Spiderman.”

While Denisa is thrilled that her children will have their dream rooms, she knows homeownership means so much more.

“It’s a good investment because I’m putting my money into something that I’m not just renting to keep renting,” Denisa said. “When I pay it off, it’ll be mine. I won’t have to worry. I know my money is going somewhere.”

With the savings she’ll gain from an affordable mortgage, Denisa has big plans.

“I see a lot of change in taking my kids places and doing things,” Denisa said. “I want to take them on a trip and this mortgage will help me a lot. They want to go to Disney.”

Now, as Denisa builds a home where each of her children will have the room they’ve dreamed of, she’s also creating the stable foundation she’s always hoped to provide.
