Habitat Gala Raises $465,000 for Affordable Homeownership
On Thursday evening, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity hosted the annual Framing the Future Gala from inside their early 20th century woodshop. The event, which welcomed over 325 attendees, raised $465,000 to build safe, affordable housing in our city.
Framing the Future Gala, presented by BMO Harris Bank, is Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity’s largest annual fundraiser. This year’s event was chaired by MGIC’s CHRO, Annette Adams. The funds raised are crucial to Milwaukee Habitat’s work to help local families break down the barriers to first-time homeownership.
Speaking to guests, Gala emcee Portia Young talked about the impact she’s seen in the community, “Last year alone, 21 children moved into Milwaukee Habitat homes. That’s 21 different futures, all with one common foundation – the stability of a Habitat home.”
Attendees quickly met – and exceeded – a $75,000 challenge match from Accunet Mortgage. In a surprise move, MGIC announced an additional $25,000 match. Generous guests met the additional challenge.
During the event, Milwaukee Habitat honored the Community Development Alliance (CDA) for their work to align affordable housing providers, supporters, and advocates throughout the city. Together, they developed the city’s first Collective Affordable Housing plan. The plan outlines strategies and target outcomes to increase housing affordability and equity in Milwaukee.
